Meta now sells its own AI agent for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, and if you are considering any third-party tool, including ours, you should price Meta's first. This page does that with Meta's own numbers, then lays out the cases where Business Agent is the right answer and the cases where it cannot be, because we would rather you rule it in or out on facts.

What Meta Business Agent costs

Business Agent was free during its rollout. Since 1 August 2026 Meta bills it at $2.00 per million tokens, and Meta's own guidance puts a typical handled message at 20,000 to 25,000 tokens. That works out to roughly 4 to 5 US cents per AI reply, and the token rate covers both the AI and the message delivery. There is no free monthly allowance on the token-billed tier.

The arithmetic for a month, at Meta's midpoint:

Replies a monthBusiness Agent, aboutA flat plan, for comparison
300$13.50$49 (ours, 1,000 included)
1,000$45$49
2,000$90$49 plus $90 overage, or $149 with 1,500 included

Below a few hundred replies a month, pay-per-use is genuinely cheaper. Around a thousand, the two meet. Past it, metered billing grows without a ceiling and a bundle does not.

What it does well

It is built into the platform, needs no third party, and sets up from the WhatsApp Business app in minutes. It answers common questions, recommends products from a catalog, books simple appointments, qualifies leads and hands to a human. For a solo business with simple questions and modest volume, that is a complete answer, and we say so.

What it will not do

Four gaps matter in practice, as of October 2026:

When to use something else

Use a third-party agent when any of these is true: your answers live in your own systems and the bot must fetch them; you are in an excluded industry; you want one agent across a website-taught knowledge base with corrections you control; you are an agency running this for clients; or you want a predictable bill at volume. These are the gaps the whole third-party category exists to fill. Ours fills them at a flat $49 a month with 1,000 replies included, on your own number, with Meta's per-message fees billed to you directly and nothing added by us; others fill them with different trade-offs, and the pricing survey linked below compares them.

Frequently asked questions

Is Meta Business Agent free? Not any more. It was free during rollout and has been billed at $2.00 per million tokens since 1 August 2026, which is roughly 4 to 5 US cents per handled reply at Meta's stated token usage. The rate covers AI processing and message delivery together, with no free monthly allowance.

What does $2 per million tokens mean in real money? Meta says a typical handled message consumes 20,000 to 25,000 tokens, so a thousand AI replies cost about $40 to $50. A business doing that volume every month is at the point where flat-rate plans from third parties cost the same or less and include more.

Can Meta Business Agent connect to my own ordering or booking system? No. It recommends from your catalog and books simple appointments, but it cannot call an arbitrary API you run. If the answer a customer needs lives in your own system, you need an agent that can reach it, which is what third-party platforms with custom tool support exist for.

Which businesses cannot use Meta Business Agent? Meta's policies exclude finance, government and health businesses, among other restricted categories. Those businesses can still automate WhatsApp on the official Business Platform through third-party tools, which operate under the platform's standard commerce and messaging policies instead.

Is Meta Business Agent available in the UAE? Meta announced global availability on 3 June 2026, but WhatsApp's product page still describes eligible businesses in select markets. UAE businesses should check their own WhatsApp Business tools for the feature rather than rely on the announcement. Availability can differ account by account.
